A Gospel Church
What is the Gospel?
At Horicon Baptist Church, the most important message we believe and teach is the Gospel: the “Good News” of what Jesus Christ has done to save sinners.
But before it’s good news, it’s devastating news. The Bible says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23), and “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). Every one of us has broken God’s law. We have lied, hated, lusted, worshiped created things, and lived as if God does not matter. And because God is holy and just, He will not ignore sin. A day of judgment is coming when every secret will be exposed, and no one will escape His righteous verdict.
But the good news is that God, in His mercy, sent Jesus to die for sinners. He sent His own Son, Jesus Christ to rescue sinners. Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and willingly went to the cross. There, He was pierced for the transgressions of His people. He bore the full weight of God’s wrath, not for His own sins (He had none), but as a substitute for all who would trust in Him. On that cross, justice and mercy met.
And three days later, Jesus rose from the dead: victorious over sin, death, and hell. His resurrection proves that the sacrifice was accepted, the debt was paid, and the enemy was defeated.
Now, everyone who turns from their sin and trusts in Jesus alone will be saved. Not by good works. Not by religious effort. But by grace through faith in Christ.
This is the message we hold most dear. It’s the heartbeat of our church, and the hope of the world.
If you’ve never believed this Gospel, turn to Jesus today. There is no better news and no more urgent decision than trusting the One who died and rose again.
